New Members add expertise and energy to Community Media Center's Board of Directors

GRCMC is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and equitable environment for community members, volunteers and employees. GRCMC welcomes diversity in its many forms – including, but not limited to age, gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, cultural perspective and economic circumstances – with the goal of providing all area residents platforms to participate in free speech, strengthen civil society, and advance a strong democracy.
The Grand Rapids Community Media Center (GRCMC) recently announced the addition of two new members to its Fiscal Year 2020 Board of Directors. Newly appointed Board members are Regina Salmi and Jesse Holcomb.
Salmi joins the board bringing experience in higher education, communications, and in the nonprofit sector. She is currently serving Network 180. Holcomb brings to the board an extensive background in journalism, media research and advocacy. He is Assistant Professor of Journalism and Communications at Calvin College.
CMC Executive Director, Linda Gellasch announced, “I am pleased to welcome our two newest members to our Board of Directors. They each have a unique background, with diverse experiences, which makes them wonderful assets to the CMC’s Board of Directors, to the organization, and to our community as a whole.”
Continuing their service on the GRCMC Board of Directors are: Edye Evans Hyde, immediate past board president, executive director and founder of Ebony road Players, and local performing artist; Gabriella De La Vega, medical translator; Shirley Griffin, SBA Product Specialist at Fifth Third Bank; Jane Hofmeyer, attorney at Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge; Sean Kenny, Ph.D psychologist; Ann Puckett, IT Manager at Grand Rapids Community Foundation; Mark Smith, attorney at Rhoades McKee; Michael Van Denend, executive director of World Affairs Council; Margie Zylstra, retired from property/casualty insurance industry.
Grand Rapids Community Media Center (CMC) is a multimedia assistance organization that has helped individuals and nonprofits in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area tell their stories for over 35 years. GRCMC provides and supports a variety of community resources including WYCE-FM radio, Wealthy Theatre, The Rapidian, an IT department serving the area’s nonprofit community, and GRTV, with broadcasts on Comcast channels 24/25, and media classes for students of all ages and abilities. GRCMC continually gathers new tools and knowledge to teach, problem-solve, and serve the media and technology needs of residents, organizations, neighborhoods and local collaborations. By introducing audiences to new voices and ideas on stage, screen and over the air, they enhance community engagement and create connections. By helping students create positive media messages and by increasing the efficiency of social services delivery through the web, they empower and collaborate.
Membership at CMC provides access to film, performance and meeting venues, ticket discounts at Wealthy Theatre events, discounts for media classes leading to certification and ability to check out GRTV equipment and use GRTV producation facilities. Members may also apply to become WYCE programmers, vote in annual member elections and recieve club privileges (for ages 21+) at Wealthy Theatre concessions.
